How it Works

In keeping with our vision "…that none shall go hungry." the Central Virginia Foodbank (CVFB) feeds the elderly, children, the unemployed, the "working poor", victims of disaster, the sick, and those in crisis through more than 500 partner agencies. These agencies consist of church pantries, senior centers, day care providers, emergency shelters, our Kids Cafes, and more.

The food and other grocery products provided to our partner agencies is distributed primarily through our Warehouse Program. Representatives of these agencies visit our warehouse during designated hours and shop for the products needed by those they serve. They then take those groceries to their feeding site to distribute through their program. We provide canned and packaged foods, as well as bakery items, fresh produce, refrigerated products, frozen foods and household grocery items.

We do not charge our member agencies for the food they withdraw. Rather, our agencies pay a small handling fee of several cents per pound to help defray the costs of the Foodbank's operations.

If you're hungry and need food, call 804-521-2500 and we'll help you find an agency near you.
